Year 1 Maths This Week
This week in Year 1 Maths, we have been exploring measurement through the topic of money!
The children have been learning about different coins and notes, identifying them and understanding their values. They have practised counting money, ordering coins and notes, and comparing amounts to develop their confidence with real life maths skills.
November 2025,
Year 1 have been having so much fun in Maths this week learning their number bonds to 10! They used the rekenrek — a Maths tool with coloured beads — to help them see and explore different ways to make 10. The children enjoyed using the beads to spot patterns and show their number facts in creative ways .
Well done, Year 1 — super mathematicians in the making!
October 2025
‘Place Value’. Today, Year 1 enjoyed using practical resources to explore the part-whole model. They worked with double sided counters and cubes to see how numbers can be split into parts and then combined to make a whole. This hands-on approach helped them understand how numbers are made up of different parts, supporting their understanding of addition and number structure. The children enjoyed using mathematical language such as ‘part’ and ‘whole’ to explain their ideas and worked confidently with their learning partner to show their thinking.
