March 2024

Year 1 had a fantastic day at Forest School today. We discussed the elements that are needed for plants to grow, in particular water. The children had the opportunity to do an experiment using water, foam and dye, to explore what happens to clouds during rainfall/water cycle. The children enjoyed creating a type of ‘Hapa-zome’ using hammers, leaves and cloth. At the end of the session, it was great to learn about the different callings that birds make to each other and why it is important to look after our birds!

This week in Forest School, Year 1 went on a woodlands walk to look for early signs of Spring. The children looked at different types of plants and discussed plants they should not touch. The children enjoyed spotting all the birds at school and worked like ‘Collaborative Carl’ to find all the birds on their list. They had the opportunity to create blossom trees using paint and broccoli. It was another fun day for us all!

Year 1 had another AMAZING day of Forest School. The children continued to learn how to care for their the planet. They learnt about what can happen to different animals if we do not pay our part in looking after the environment. The children had so much fun working together making dens for different animals. It was great learning about the sunflowers. The children enjoyed creating their own in the playground, along with having the opportunity to plant their own seeds. We all look forward to watching the plants grow!

February 2024

Year 1 enjoyed their first session of forest school today. The children loved making their forest school signs whilst thinking about their favourite animal. This term in science the topic is ‘Caring for the Planet’. The children had opportunities to explore nature by digging up weeds and investigating roots. They also had the chance to care for the environment by doing some litter picking in the local area. The session ended nicely with a song around the fire pit. We can’t wait for next week.
