Forest School
May 2026
Final Forest school session for Year 2 today! Inspired by the holy feast of Pentecost, we created beautiful nature looms using Y-shaped sticks. We wove in blue to represent the wind of the Holy Spirit, red for the flames of fire, and green leaves to celebrate God’s creation and new life.
We also learnt how to safely light a fire using a fire steel. Working with a partner, we showed teamwork, encouragement, patience and great determination throughout the activity.
To celebrate the end of our sessions together, we enjoyed toasting marshmallows over the fire — a wonderful way to end our learning journey!

Forest school for year two despite the wind and rain.

This week in Forest School, Year 2 moved their peas and radishes into our school planters , while their poorly sunflowers came back indoors after some sneaky slugs had been nibbling them.
They created beautiful nature art by using mallets to bash pigments from leaves and petals.
Inspired by the slugs, they explored what else might be living in our Awe and Wonder Garden By shaking trees and plants over white sheets, they discovered spiders, ants, caterpillars, and more.
A lovely reminder that when we plant, we create life for so many other creatures too.

Year 2 Forest School fun
After just two weeks, we’re excited to see the first little shoots appearing from our radishes , peas , and sunflowers — such a rewarding moment!
The children also had the chance to use a bow saw to cut some hazel wood , where they carefully glued on a leaf from one of our school trees . We explored the textures of nature by feeling the bumpy veins on the leaves and creating magical crayon leaf rubbings
To finish, we carried out some fun experiments to investigate whether plants really do need sunshine , water , and space to grow. Lots of curiosity , teamwork , and hands-on learning all around!
A wonderful day of outdoor discovery.

Year 2 made a fantastic start to Forest School with a brilliant first session!
Using jewellers’ loupes , the children explored real plants up close, discovering tiny details in leaves , stems and roots . They learned to identify the different parts of a plant and got hands-on in the garden—exploring, weeding and preparing beds for planting.
We planted sunflowers , radishes and peas , which we’ll transfer to the planters in the coming weeks
The session also introduced Forest School rules and fire safety , ending with songs around the fire
A wonderful start, full of curiosity and teamwork —we’re excited for what’s to come!
