WHAT WE DO

With the help and support of parents at this school, we are able to organise fun and enriching activities for the children and social events that help us all to feel a part of this school community.

With the money raised from the events that we hold each year, we have been able to supplement the school funds and ensure that our children are receiving the best school experience they possible can, regardless of government funding or budgetary constraints.   We are able to make sure the children receive fun and memorable experiences, above and beyond the basic curriculum while they are here at St John Fisher, and we are proud that they leave this school feeling that their learning journey has been interesting and exciting.

    FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES

Here are some of the events run by The Friends of St John Fisher School:

    • 100 Club Draw – our cash prize draw held three times a year, with the potential of winning up to £300 with just one ticket!

    • Christmas Card Project – coordinating Christmas card and gift orders personalised by the children that parents can purchase for Christmas.

    • Race Night – a fantastic evening social event held locally for parents to attend and get involved with. Raises a huge amount of money for the school and a great night out!

    • Christmas Shopping Event – an experience for the children to purchase gifts in our ‘pop up shop’ for their family and loved ones.

    • Friends Disco – a firm favourite with the children, this event is usually held in either Autumn or Spring and all the kids have a fantastic time.

    • Break the Rules Day – no uniform, crazy hair, nail varnish, temporary tattoos, face paint, the list goes on! Lots of ways to break the rules, for one day only!

    • Quiz Night – a social evening held locally for parents to attend and join teams to battle it out for the coveted top spot and winning prizes.

    • Summer Fete – not to be missed, bouncy castles, live entertainment, food, ice cream, activities, games and stalls.

The Friends Committee also provide tea, coffee and treats at school events, and other parent gatherings within school hours, and volunteers for these events are needed.

WHERE DOES THE FUNDRAISING MONEY GO?

The fundraising objectives change year on year, and in previous The Friends Committee were able to provide funds to purchase essential updated IT equipment and a school PA system. As well as equipment used for the OPAL ( Outdoor Play and Learning) Programme.

For the children, there are experiences that The Friends Committee are asked to provide again and again, such as:

    • The Christmas Pantomime – an opportunity for the children to experience a theatrical performance, this is a great afternoon that the children really enjoy.

    • The Year 6 Prom - an event subsidised by the Friends Committee, to mark the completion of our Year 6 children's time at primary school.

    • Duckling egg hatching – experienced in Reception, the classes are provided with incubators and eggs so that they can watch as the eggs become ducklings and interact with them once they are hatched.

    • Christmas Crafts – a provision of craft materials so that the children can get involved in some creative activities and make some craft items related to Christmas.

    • Mud Kitchens – provided to Reception classes and maintained each year, these are enjoyed by the children as they experience learning through sensory and imaginative play.

    • Reading Corners – provided to every class and maintained each year, these are bean bags, cushions and inviting decorative items to make a reading area in each class that children enjoy spending time in.

    • Chair Bags = provided to KS2 classes, these bags store books, homework, pencil cases and water bottles.

    • Prayer Book/Bible – these are provided to our year 6 leavers to take with them as they move on to high school.

    HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Any help, no matter how small, is gratefully received and we have a number of ways that you can get involved:

    • Have you any great fundraising ideas that could help raise additional funds for the school and our children?
    • Are you able to help with organising and taking the lead on implementing new ideas?
    • Could you volunteer to be a class representative and help us to keep your class informed about activities and events.
    • Have you got some hours spare and would like to be added to our volunteer list as we always need helpers behind the scenes to run our activities.

If you feel you could help to do any of the above please get in touch by filling in the SJF Helper form below. Thank you!

What is it?  It's a cash prize draw that takes place near the end of every school term, offering £100/£30/£20 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.  As it takes place 3 times a year, you have the potential of winning up to £300 from a single ticket!

How much does it cost?  It's £10 per ticket to enter the draw and there are no limits on the number of tickets you can buy.  The more tickets you buy the higher your chances of winning.

Where does the money go?  Every penny raised goes towards materials or fun events for the children.  So... if you don't win, you can always take comfort in knowing you've contributed towards enriching your child/rens school life
