Black History Month
October 2024
BHM 2024s theme is reclaiming narratives- today we were joined by ‘Focus’, a colourful and entertaining storyteller, on a voyage of discovery! Transcending time, she told the fascinating stories of brilliant black British people, often omitted from our history lessons, who have shaped our country. Using ‘hidden figures’ to entertain and inform discussions, she exposed children to a dynamic insight into our REAL history; a history that includes Black people as fundamental to creating the fabric of our society and the rich tapestry of who we are today.

In Year 2, we collaborated like our key skills superhero, ‘Collaborative Carl,’ as we explored influential black figures throughout history and created collages featuring their faces. The most enjoyable part was working on the hair designs, which allowed the children to explore and discuss different textures and styles.
These activities were part of our recognition of Black History Month, fostering an appreciation for diversity and the impact of influential black figures in our society.

In Year 1 children have been creating their own versions of solidarity hands. To inspire their designs they drew from vibrant African prints, exploring the patterns, colours and cultural significance behind them.
These activities were part of our recognition of Black History Month, fostering an appreciation for diversity and the impact of influential black figures in our society.
