Year 6 Boys Football Tournament

Year 6 Boy’s Football Tournament

On Thursday, 10 Year 6 boys, keen to follow in the girls’ team’s footsteps, took the coach to The Hive for their first football tournament of 2021.

List of players: Aadi, Shane, Conor H, Finn, Tom B, Curtis, Fabio, Dhayan, Alfie and Sope.

The first game of five, against Stanburn, was a 2-1 victory thanks to superb strikes from Shane (our brilliant captain) and our player of the tournament Aadi. The match was more one sided than the score line suggests. We scored 2 goals in the first half to develop a lead, but they fought back and scored a top corner shot from outside the box to make it 2-1.

The second fixture, against St.Anselm’s, a double from impact substitute Sope (thanks to Miss Lucas and Mr Betts’ fantastic coaching!) and two excellent solo goals from Fabio and Aadi led us to an impressive 4-0 victory but many more amazing things were to come!

The third was versus Pinner Park, and it was tighter than you’d think. We went 2-1 up and our goalie performed a stunning save to deny them another goal. After that they seemed to lose spirit and we ended up with a 3-1 victory.

The fourth was by far our hardest game, with a narrow 1-0 victory against Marlborough. We grabbed an early goal courtesy of a brilliant cross from man of the match Dhayan.  Sope managed to put our noses in front and they pressed us hard for the rest of the match but a solid performance from our defenders got us the win.

The fifth really summed up our performance. Competing against Whitchurch, we grabbed the early goal and never looked back. With a hat-trick from Aadi, and two lovely strikes from Curtis and Fabio, we won 5-0.

We ended the tournament with a whopping 15 goals in just 5 games with Aadi scoring 5, Fabio, Sope and Curtis with 3 and one for the captain Shane.

We achieved an amazing feat by winning the tournament and advancing to the final on 19th of May. We would all like to thank Miss Lucas and Mr Betts for coaching us on the big day, Mr Levison for coaching us at school, Mrs Moriarty for keeping track of all the scores and to all the fantastic parents who took time out of their busy days to come to support us and finally the organiser - Kevin.
