May Festival of Football Finals

Well done to the Year 6 Girls and Boys Football Teams who played in the May Festival of Football Finals on Monday and Wednesday.

Both teams played absolutely brilliantly, showed teamwork, skill and determination and were a credit to our school.

The girls began the day with a dominating 7-1 win against St Joseph’s in the semi-final with a double hat trick from Olivia and a great goal from Sophia. We then went on to face St Anselm’s in the final. It was a tough and closely fought game but luckily for us, Sophia P scored an excellent goal in the final minutes of the game to make the score 1-0 to St John Fisher. This result meant we won the tournament overall and are now the number one girls team in the borough! Well done girls, we are so proud of you all.

The boys’ competition was played differently to the girls and we faced another tough league style tournament! We started the day with a game against St Joseph’s and although we dominated the game from start to finish, we couldn’t capitalise and we drew 0-0. We then faced West Lodge, who were extremely strong, it was a thrilling game and it ended up in a well-deserved 0-0 draw. Unfortunately, we lost our third game to Stanburn 1-0 but we did not allow that to bring us down. We knew we were better than that and in our fourth game of the day we played some of our best football and beat St Bernadette’s 1-0 thanks to a great goal from Fabio! We went into our last game knowing that a win would allow us to finish second overall and we were determined to make that happen. We worked our socks off and after great play between Tom and Aadi, Fabio scored his second of the day to make it 1-0. Although we controlled the game, it did get a bit tense at the end as Pinner Park hit the post. Luckily, we managed to hold on and won the game 1-0 meaning we finished as runners up and the second best team in the borough!

Well done to the following children who took part: Olivia, Kate, Claire, Irene, Sophia P, Ednah, Lara A, Millie, Maame, Amelia P, Tom B, Curtis, Fabio, Aadi, Shane, Conor, Finn, Sope, Dhayan and Alfie. A special well done to Claire and Conor who were chosen as Players of the Day.
