Town Mouse and Country Mouse
Janaury 2026
As part of our work on The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, Reception children wrote invitations, including key details such as names, dates, and times, developing their understanding of purpose and audience in writing. They used shapes to create mouse pictures, building their knowledge of shape and design, and explored nocturnal and diurnal animals by sorting and sticking pictures onto white and black sheets. The children proudly demonstrated and shared their writing, building confidence and communication skills.
January 2026
The Town Mouse, Country Mouse Week – The children used 2D shapes to create a mouse, showing creativity and early mathematical understanding. They labelled their drawings describing what they could see in the town and countryside, developing literacy skills and their understanding of the world. The children also used their phonics knowledge to write invitations, demonstrating an awareness of what an invitation is and what information needs to be included. Through discussion and role play in the home corner, children built communication and language skills while showing confidence, cooperation, and enjoyment in their play.
