Social Media Advice

We all know how important it is to keep our children safe.  At school, as part of our computing curriculum, our children have regular E-Safety training.

Away from school our children are able to access social network sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat from a wide variety of devices – iPads, mobile phones and some games consoles. We realise that many children have created a social network profile before the correct age (usually 13); this should be discouraged.  It is important to talk to your child about the sites they are using and find out together how to set privacy tools.  These tools will help to keep their profile private and prevent your child from giving out personal information to strangers. Support your child in ensuring that they only add contacts to these sites that they know and trust offline.  Many sites have a ‘Parent Guide’ to guide you through setting controls.

If you have any concerns or need advice please contact Mrs O'Brien (Designated Safeguarding Lead).

Please use the guides below to find out more information, the internet links will take you to a wealth of up to date advice.

Please see below the up to date information regarding online safety.  This follows our online safety training for staff and parents. There is also a copy of our school online safety rules.

The Problem with Parents, Kids, and Social Media

"So much of parents' fear around social media use comes from this fear that their kids' lives will be ruined forever," says Ana Homayoun in the latest episode of Home School, The Atlantic's animated video series about parenting.
