This week, Year 1 had lots of fun using their coding skills with Bee-Bots! The children enjoyed programming the Bee-Bots to move in different directions , helping them develop their understanding of simple algorithms and problem-solving . They worked together to plan routes , test their ideas , and debug when things didn’t go as expected . It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and teamwork as they explored early computing skills in a hands-on and engaging way .

During British Science Week, Year 1 explored the different temperatures on the Moon and discussed why plants cannot grow there. The children learned that the Moon experiences extremely hot and extremely cold temperatures, and that it does not have the air, water, or soil that plants need to grow.
To investigate how temperature affects plant growth, the class planted cress seeds. Some seeds were kept in the classroom, while others were placed in the freezer to represent the extremely cold conditions found on the Moon. The children will continue to observe what happens to the seeds and discuss whether plants can grow in such cold temperatures.
