March 2026

Reception children are learning all about Spring.

March 2026

Reception children explored spring through fun, hands-on activities . After reading Hello Spring, they talked about how nature changes in this season.

They wrote their own spring poems and created pictures showing signs of spring like sunshine, flowers, butterflies, and new leaves .

The children also carefully observed real flowers and blossoms to draw spring flowers, noticing colours, shapes, and petals .

They learned about the butterfly life cycle, using pasta to represent each stage: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly .

In the tuff spot, they explored a sensory activity about the butterfly life cycle, learning how butterflies grow and change through play and discovery .

British Science Week

The children planted cress seeds using cotton wool, plastic pots and pipettes to water them. This helped develop their fine motor skills while learning how plants grow.

Some pots were kept in a warm, light place, while others were put in the freezer . The children will observe how the seeds grow in different conditions and discuss whether plants could grow in extreme environments — even on the Moon!

Over the next few days, they will continue observing the seeds and talk about what plants need to grow.

March 2026

Over the past two weeks Reception children have been learning what a science experiment is and how they can observe and predict what is happening. We enjoyed exploring Coke and mints and seeing what reaction they make when mixed together. We also investigated what would happen if we added hot and cold water to Skittles. The children are excited about the upcoming British Science Week.

March 2026

The school nurse came to talk to the Reception children about good dental hygiene.

The children enjoyed brushing the big teeth and learning the important facts of keeping our own teeth clean. We can’t wait to use our new tooth brushes and timers.

February 2026

Reception children developed curiosity and early scientific skills through two hands-on experiments. In the first, they explored floating and sinking by predicting and testing different objects in water. In the second, they investigated what happens when raisins are added to lemonade or water, making predictions, observing changes, and discussing results. Throughout both activities, children shared ideas, tested outcomes, and recorded their observations.

October 2025

Reception children have been learning about body parts. They discovered a variety of books related to the topic, drew and labelled body parts, discussed their baby pictures and created pictures of them as babies and now.
