RE Lessons
May 2025
In RE this week, as we draw nearer to the Feast of Pentecost, the children have been learning about the Holy Spirit, how it strengthens, guides and inspires us in our journey of faith. As part of their child-led Celebration of the Word, they reverently recited The Third Glorious Mystery of the Rosary - The Descent of the Holy Spirit in honour of Mary. It was a beautiful and reflective moment, showing their deepening understanding of both the Holy Spirit and their devotion to Our Lady during this special month of May.

In RE, Reception children learnt about the church, they created a prayer for Jesus, they made stained glass windows and drew pictures of the church, they also build churches of blocks.

In RE, Reception children have been learning about how they can be like Jesus now he has gone to Heaven. They designed fish to remind themselves that this is a symbol of Jesus and tannoys so that they can speak out to others and deliver his message. Children have also written letters to Pope Leo XIV.

In RE this week, Reception children are learning to be gentle with others. The Holy Spirit has taught us the gift of Kindness. The children have also been learning about the Conclave.

RE - In Reception, children discussed the meaning of Maundy Thursday, learning about Jesus' washing the feet and the Last Supper.
They drew pictures, made crosses from pegs and took part in acting out scenes of washing feet and sharing bread and wine during Christ's Last Supper.

In RE this week, Year 1 have been exploring the story of the Last Supper (Luke 22:7-38) through creative artwork and role play. They have enjoyed bringing the story to life by recreating scenes using their imagination and artistic skills. Through role play, they’ve had the opportunity to step into the shoes of Jesus and his disciples, helping them understand the significance of this important event in a fun and engaging way.

In RE, Year 6 have been using oracy skills to answer big questions, whilst Reception children discussed the meaning of Palm Sunday based on the Bible story "Jesus on a Donkey".
They created palms using a variety of materials, drew pictures of Jesus on a donkey as a symbol of humility and excited people waving palm trees to welcome Jesus. They also took part in a role play of Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem.

In RE this week, Reception children have been learning about the parable of The Good Samaritan.

In RE, Year 5 developed their knowledge of religious vocabulary by using their Oracy skills to play. In Reception, children wrote about the story ‘Jesus in the desert’, they created the desert scene / cactuses and wrote their Lenten promises in leaves templates.

In RE lessons, Reception have explored what it means to belong to a community, whilst Year 3 have been searching for Bible references linked to Participation in Catholic Social Teaching.

In RE this week, Reception children drew themselves, their families and friends praying in church/gathering together. They created baskets with fish and bread based on the story ‘feed 5000’.

In RE lessons this week, Reception have been learning about - Peace - making doves, drawing pictures and writing about when they feel peaceful . Year 5 have worked in trios to sort the stories of Jesus and Mary’s lives into the correct mysteries of the Rosary (Joyful, Sorrowful, Luminous & Glorious).

In RE, Reception children have learnt facts about the Advent wreath and Jesse tree.
They drew and created the wreaths and decorated ornaments for the Jesse tree. They also acted out the nativity story.

In RE this week, Yr1 have continued their topic on Prophecy and Promise, the children worked liked Collaborative Carl and retold the story ‘The Birth of Jesus is Announced’ (Luke 1:26-38) using Godly Play, recognising how special Mary is. Children in Reception, learnt important facts about Advent, wrote their Advent promises and used stencils to create images of the Nativity and Baby Jesus.
Religious Education is fundamental to our mission, comprising 10% of our curriculum time. We implement the planning of Margaret Carswell across our school and we seek to identify God's presence throughout all subjects. Our faith is integral to every aspect of our school life, serving as the cornerstone of our community.
