Forest School

October 2025

Today, our Year 5 explorers had an unforgettable final Forest School session! They started with a nutty challenge - could the grey squirrel team out-collect the red squirrel team in gathering acorns? Spoiler alert: the grey squirrels took the win... but we can't forget their interesting history in the UK!

Inspired by the term's theme of forces in nature, the children got creative making their very own whirligigs using bow saws and palm drills!

To cap off an amazing half-term, they channelled their inner Isaac Newton and toasted some apple slices dipped in sugar over the fire to create delicious toffee apples . What a sweet ending to an incredible journey of exploration and discovery!

Huge congratulations to Year 5 on an unforgettable half-term! #ForestSchool #Year5 #OutdoorLearning #ForcesInNature

Another great Forest School session! The children learned about the fire triangle - fuel, oxygen, and heat - and even got to practice lighting a fire safely. They also discovered the importance of friction and how it helps us in everyday life.

But it wasn't all about fire and forces... Our young explorers also helped care for our tree nursery, clearing the area and nurturing our young trees until they're strong enough to be planted around our school.

As we grow and learn together, we're reminded that we're not alone - we're all growing with God.

In Forest School, Year 5 had a blast exploring air resistance today! They designed & tested parachutes for their wonderfully creative stick people, discovering how surface area impacts descent. Amazing creativity & engineering skills on display! #AirResistance #STEM #Year5 #LearningThroughPlay

Forest School this week:

Science Magic in Action! Today our Year 5 scientists explored the invisible power of magnetism!

We played games to learn about directions. Discovered how worms and swallows use the Earth’s magnetic field to find their way. Used magnets and iron filings to reveal mysterious magnetic fields and even created our own magnet crafts to take home. The children were amazed to learn that earth itself is a giant magnet, thanks to its iron and nickel core. A huge well done to all our curious explorers for asking brilliant questions and thinking like real scientists!

Year 5 had a cracking time exploring FORCES today! In their second Forest School session, they went on a bird hunt, designed and built nests to protect eggs, and finished off with a classic game of conkers. It was a fun-filled day that brought science to life! #Year5 #ScienceInAction #LearningThroughPlay
