Celebration of the Word

May 2025

This week, Year 1 children led a beautiful Celebration of the Word focussed on the Catholic Social Teaching principle ‘Human Dignity’. Through prayer, song and thoughtful reflections, they reminded us, through Genesis 1:27 “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them”, that every person deserves respect and love. As part of their response, each child wrote about what makes them special and sealed their message with a thumbprint - symbolising their unique identity and the dignity they each hold. It was a heart-warming and inspiring celebration that showed the deep understanding our youngest pupils have of this important value.

In In Celebration of the Word, children led a worship ‘Jesus Calls His First Disciples’ Luke 5:1-11, reminding us that we too should follow Jesus and help others, just like He called fishermen to become ‘fishers of men’.

Parents came to talk to Reception children about Chinese New Year. They shared information about the traditional clothes they wear, how they celebrate and showed us lanterns and dragons.

December 2024

Reception children have taken part in Celebrations of the Word focused on God’s light - Jesus is the light of the world and so are we - if we shine bright we are close to God.

At St. John Fisher, we hold a daily Celebration of the Word. Each week, the whole school gathers for assemblies, which include a weekly Gospel assembly, Songs of Praise assembly and a Celebration assembly. Additionally, we have a teacher-led Celebration of the Word and a pupil-led Celebration of the Word in class once a week. Throughout the year, our local parish priests regularly celebrate Mass with us, both at school and in church.
