In Science, Year 4 were looking at whether the rate of melting of an ice cube is affected by the temperature of the water.
We carried out a fair test to see if hot water, cold water, or room-temperature water would have an effect on the ice cube by measuring the length of time it takes to completely melt.

In Science, Year 4 were learning how to read and use a thermometer and stopwatch accurately.
As a class, we investigated how the temperature of water changes over time.
We measured the starting temperature of warm water in a beaker and then recorded the temperature at 2-minute intervals, up to 10 minutes.
In pairs, we also measured how long it took our partner to say the alphabet and count to 100 using a digital stopwatch.

In Science in Year 4, as part of their learning about solids, liquids and gases, the children have been investigating materials which can be more difficult to categorise . They explored oobleck, a fascinating non-Newtonian fluid, which behaves like a liquid when ‘unstressed’ and can be poured but acts more like a solid when force is applied .
They also learnt about other examples of non-Newtonian fluids, and were amazed to discover that it would even be possible to walk across a swimming pool filled with custard without sinking!
