Forest School
February 2026
The Reception children took part in their last Forest School session inspired by the story Jack and the Beanstalk. They enthusiastically searched the garden during a gold hunt, showing curiosity and persistence. The children decorated plant pots, added soil, and planted bean seeds, demonstrating good hand–eye coordination and an understanding of how plants grow. While wearing gardening gloves, the children helped to pull weeds from the beds, showing responsibility and care for their environment. They used hammers safely to work together to create a large beanstalk, developing confidence, coordination, and teamwork. The session concluded with cooking over a real fire . The children grilled apple slices dipped in brown sugar on sticks. They showed an awareness of health and safety by managing risks appropriately, allowing the food to cool and using huffing before tasting.

In Forest School, Reception children focused on the story The Tiger Who Came to Tea. The children made mud pies and tea using real-life objects such as china teapots, plates, spoons, and saucepans. They took turns swinging in a hammock, showing responsibility for their own safety. The children used magnifying glasses to discover bugs and explored how to safely use a rubber hammer to chop wood.

Today, Reception continued their magical journey through traditional tales and found themselves in the world of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They talked together about the choices Goldilocks made and agreed that she could have been a little kinder. Even so, they decided to help her! The children worked brilliantly to build boats to help Goldilocks escape from Bear Island and return safely home, leaving the bears to enjoy their peaceful forest once more. They created a brand new home for Goldilocks, complete with a cosy bed and a soft leaf blanket. To finish their adventure, they made porridge – some for themselves and some tasty treats for the birds and squirrels.
A truly wonderful day immersed in rain, mud and puddles, with lots of imagination, teamwork and smiles all round.
