This week in Year 1, we’ve been learning all about telling the time! The children have been exploring clocks, learning to recognise the hour and minute hands, and practicing how to tell the time to the hour and half past. We've also had fun making our own clocks and using them to show different times throughout the day. In addition, the children have been learning all about Position and Direction in Maths. The children had lots of fun taking their learning outdoors, making the most of this good weather, using creative activities to explore movement and direction. They used a Gruffalo model and turned it in different directions to understand key vocabulary ‘left’ ‘right’ ‘clockwise’ and ‘anticlockwise’. They also worked like Collaborative Carl and used their own Gruffalo plates to practise giving and following directions. Later on in the week, they enjoyed programming Bee Bots to move in different directions, bringing their learning to life through hands-on exploration and play!

In Year 1 class, the children explored time by learning about hours, minutes, and seconds. They guessed how long different tasks would take, like writing numbers from 0 to 20, running around the playground, and walking with a beanbag on their heads. Then they used timers to see if their guesses were correct—it was lots of fun!
