Forest School
December 2025
Year 3 enjoyed their final Forest School session today. They learned how plants absorb water transport it up to the leaves, then used leaves to create festive Christmas tree shapes.
The children also practised using a fire steel to make sparks, before an adult lit the fire. They finished the session with marshmallows and carols around the fire, making it a lovely end to the term.

In Forest School today, Year 3 children developed their understanding of plants by creating their own stick man . They carefully whittled their stick and made winter scarves for their little people . A wonderful link between our learning of plants and our trip to the theatre.

Wonderful Trees at Forest School. Today, Year 3 explored just how incredible trees are! They found out that the tallest tree in the world, Hyperion, reaches a huge 116 metres — they paced it out all the way to the car park! The children were amazed at how far it stretched. They also learned about the widest tree, the Mexican Cypress. They held hands to create our own giant circle and reached 33 metres, but the real tree is 42 metres around — even bigger!
Then the children got hands-on, using bow saws to make their own tree models from hawthorn branches . They counted the rings to estimate the tree’s age and decorated colourful twigs to complete their creations.
A fantastic session full of wonder, teamwork, tool skills and science — a brilliant way to celebrate the beauty and power of trees!

At Forest School today, our Year 3 children visited the allotments They explored and identified different parts of plants and flowers, linking brilliantly to their science learning. It was a very cold day, so everyone warmed up with a cosy hot chocolate around the fire. A perfect way to end their outdoor adventure!
November 2025,
Year 3 had a fantastic hands-on day at Forest School — linking last term’s Animals Including Humans topic with our new focus on Plants!
Out in the Awe and Wonder garden, pupils explored food chains and discovered how plants form the base of every one . They then became real scientists — dissecting owl pellets to identify what owls eat (with lots of excited discoveries and a few squeals! ) — before making pine cone bird feeders to help local wildlife this winter.
A brilliant day full of curiosity, teamwork, and muddy smiles!

Year 3’s first Forest School adventure!
The children had a fantastic time today playing a fun acorn-collecting game, learning all about what animals need to survive, and exploring the woodlands to build their very own dens! Their Forest School session also linked perfectly to their science learning about plants — discovering how trees and plants provide food, shelter, and oxygen for living things. What a brilliant start to their Forest School sessions!
