Girl's Football League

On Monday, the girls’ football team went to Belmont Primary School to play three back to back league games against: Belmont, St Anselm’s and St Teresa’s. We felt confident as we played well in our last tournament and knew we could work well as a team. Our first game was against St Anselm’s who were tough opposition: they defended well and were good on the counter attack. After the first half, the score was 0-0 and we weren’t sure if we would win but Ana – who was making debut for the school – scored a magnificent goal. In the last minute of the game, Irene made a breath-taking save which meant we won the game 1-0! After a short break, we played St Teresa’s. We dominated the game from start to finish and Olivia scored two amazing goals in the first half. After halftime, we continued pushing and Anne-Marie made numerous power runs from defence and she was rewarded with two goals making the final score 4-0 to St John Fisher. Our final game was against Belmont. We started extremely well and were 2-0 up in a few minutes with goals from Sophia and Anne-Marie. Just before half time, Belmont scored to make it 2-1. We felt frustrated after conceding and wanted to redeem ourselves in the second half. We continued to push on and Olivia scored a third goal, making the final score 3-1 to us which meant we ended the day with 9 important league points! Well done to: Ana, Davina, Niamh, Anne-Marie, Ella, Nel, Maame, Olivia, Sophia and our goalkeeper - Irene. A special well done to Anne-Marie who was chosen as player of the day for her amazing ‘power runs’, excellent defending and brilliant attitude. Thank you to Mr Levison for coaching us and Mr Betts for driving.
