Harrow Football League

On Thursday 14th November, we played our first Harrow Football League match of the season against Krishna Avanti. We were all feeling extremely proud to have been picked for the team and were excited for the game. After our lunchtime team talk and training session, we were feeling confident but the nerves were starting to kick in! We won the toss and started the game with our backs to the sun, which Joiyal was happy about in goal. As the game kicked off, we knew what we had to do and started extremely brightly; Harry even hit the post in the first two minutes. We kept pressing and were rewarded with a goal as Caolán cut inside and slipped the ball past the keeper making it 1-0 to St John Fisher. However as it neared half time, we conceded a free kick at the edge of the box and Krisha Avanti scored an unstoppable free kick making it 1-1 going into half time. After a motivational team talk from Mr Levison and Miss Betts we felt confident we could go on to win the game. We dominated the second half and had many chances. Eventually, we finally took one of our chances as Adrian dribbled past their defence and scored an excellent goal making it 2-1. Although we continued to control the game, Krishna Avanti had a dangerous counter attack but Joiyal made an outstanding save. We kept our lead to the final whistle and won the game 2-1, giving us three important points in our league table. Well done to all the team: Aidan  (Captain), Matthew, Adrian, Caolán, Zach, Daniel, Joiyal, Harry, Alex, Jeff, Evan and Olly who all showed great teamwork, enthusiasm and determination. A special well done to Daniel who was awarded Man of the Match for his amazing work in defence. A huge thank you to Mr Levison and Miss Betts for coaching us every week and to Mr Betts who drove us to and from the game. We look forward to our next league game – keep an eye out for the result!

By Aidan (Captain) and Matthew.
