On Friday 22 January 2016, Year 5 took part in Greek day. At the start of the day, the children assembled in the hall in their traditional Greek costumes, and took on the role of Athenian citizens at the time of the Battle of Marathon (490BC). The children completed different activities, which were positioned around the room in the style of a marketplace. The activities consisted of making wax tablets, mosaic tiles, medicine, oil lamps and clay pots. In the afternoon, the children worked in different groups to prepare for the Greek theatre. They learnt how to serve and prepare food, perform a dance, march like soldiers and enact a play. Once the children had rehearsed, the banquet commenced in the hall and the children enjoyed a traditional Ancient Greek feast.
