We took Aer Lingus from Terminal 2 at Heathrow and arrived inCorkCityAirport. From here our host families picked us up and took us to their houses. On Friday night we relaxed at our host’s houses and some people went out with their families.
On Saturday morning we all went to the Gaelic Football Blitz. We were split into teams and played 5 games each. We all had loads of fun, and then everyone got a medal for participating. After the blitz we all went back to our host families and some people went around Cork. In the evening we went bowling and then we played pool with our hosts..
On Sunday Miss O’Sullivan, Mrs Dick and Mrs Lyons took us on a tour ofCork. We were planning to go on a tour bus, but it was closed because of the Corpus Christi Parade so we had to walk everywhere! First we went and rang the bells of St Anne’s Church in Shandon. As well as that we had a look around the church. After we had been to the church we went to the Butter Museum. We had a tour and then Holly helped to make butter. After the Butter Museum we walked all the way up to Cork City Gaol. We were told about famous prisoners and we saw some old graffiti that Irish civil war prisoners had drawn on the walls. We went to the shop then had lunch outside the gaol. After that we walked back down to Carrols and bought souvenirs, then walked to St Finnbar’s Cathedral where we were picked up by our hosts. In the evening we relaxed with our host families.
On Monday we went to Star of the Sea School and said a final goodbye to our hosts. Then we went on a bus to the Titanic experience at Cobh, where we were given fake copies of real passenger’s tickets. We walked around the museum and learned a lot about the Titanic. At the end we found out if the passenger whose ticket we had survived or died a horrible death in the Atlantic Ocean.
We then went to CorkAirport and caught our plane back to England. At Terminal 2 we were picked up and taken home.
The Gaelic exchange was amazing and thank you to the teachers who organised it all and came to Ireland.
